Informational Text #2: A Ticket Around the World

This book is super cute and super informative! from the minute you open up the book you are presented with this fairly large colorful map marked with the countries you will be visiting showing how special each country is and how exciting it will be to learn about that country as a reader. The story line focuses on a boy (Narrative perspective) who visits his friends in thirteen different countries (Canada=Cara, Brazil=Fernanda, U.S=Eddie, Costa Rica=Alberto, France=Leonie, Morocco=Malak, Greece=Constantinos, Jordan=Haneen, China= Xiao, India=Meena, Botswana=Poloko, Philippines=Marilou, and Australia=Joe) As a reader you are taken on this journey around the world and learning about the food, the language, the landmarks, the cultural events, traditions, wildlife etc. For example the boy visited Costa Rica, some fact’s that were presented was “ Costa Rica is a small country in Central America with over 4.5 million people.” The boy is visiting his friend Alberto who lives on a farm near the city of “Alajuela”, during the stay the boy tried Alberto’s favorite food Gallo Pinto (which is black beans and rice, it is the country’s national dish.” and the little boy was able to “visit the town of La Fortuna, home of the famous Arenal volcano.” So as a reader we are taken on this journey and exploring parts of the world that we have never been, While viewing these playful illustrations, each page shows the geography and landmarks making it easy for the reader to spot differences and similarities between the countries.

I really enjoyed this book because it is so informative and it contains illustrations with vibrant colors. The book shows the reader how children all over the world live, how they eat, what are so popular landmarks, there wildlife etc. I really appreciate how every character introduced is different and has this unique background from their given country. The illustrations give this warmth and are quite whimsical, the book will have readers feeling like they actually traveled the world without having to leave home! I would give this book a four out of four stars because it’s a great book that is not crowded with so much facts about six facts each, the perfect amount which makes it easy to follow along with. The book had information I was well aware of, but it also had some fact’s I didn’t know! (educational value for children and adults!) so when I got to the “Do you Remember Section” it was much easier to answer all the questions the boy was asking, which shows It will engage the reader to recall information they are reading in order to later answer questions about there “journey.” The book itself teaches diversity which is a beautiful thing!Title : A Ticket Around the World
